Property Disposition at the Dearborn Campus
All furniture and equipment that the university owns is under the authority of Property Disposition per SPG 520.01. Property Disposition determines whether the furniture is of any value to the university and, if not, has the sole authority for the disposal of that property and the distribution of any resulting proceeds. UM Property Disposition comes to the Dearborn campus once each quarter to pick up items that are no longer needed or cannot be stored at the campus, whether they are items that are still in good condition or are damaged and unusable.
On the Dearborn Campus, Property Disposition is handled by Facilities Planning.
Furniture
What is considered furniture:
- Office furniture
- Cork boards
- White boards
- Pictures
- Other similar items
If your department is in possession of unwanted furniture, create an AiM Work Request stating what needs to be removed. Facilities Planning will respond to the AiM request and assist with removal.
Furniture Disposal
What does Facilities Planning do with unwanted furniture?
There are three main ways that the furniture may be removed:
- Send items to Property Disposition in one of the quarterly pickups.
- If the piece(s) is unusable, an Authorization to Scrap will be requested. Once the Authorization to Scrap is received, the items can be trashed or scrapped.
- If the furniture is still in usable condition, it may be kept in furniture storage for other departments to use. When departments need furniture, they can submit an AiM Work Request to visit the ROC to look at what is available. Items that Planning has in storage for campus use is available to campus departments. The only cost that may be incurred by the department is the cost of hiring outside movers.
Facilities Planning will evaluate the furniture and decide on which method is the best method for that piece(s).
Keys from Furniture
Keys for any furniture that you no longer need should be returned to Facilities Operations. See your Department Access Coordinator (DAC) for the process on how to do this.
Computer Related Items
If you have computer related items such as: computers, monitors, printers, etc., please put in an ITS request for the items to be picked up. Dearborn ITS will pickup the items your department would like to get rid of and will coordinate with Planning to send items that they have deemed are not of any use to the campus to Property Disposition.
