Space and Campus Planning
Facilities Planning is responsible for consistent and equitable allocation of space across the campus and for overseeing the development of long-term planning. We work with Deans, Department Heads, and Senior Leaders to develop space plans, identify opportunities for optimizing space efficiency, and to align space use with program needs and available resources.
Annual Space Survey
Each year beginning on February 1st, Facilities Planning oversees and reviews the Dearborn campus’s portion of the UM Annual Space Survey. The space survey validates the university’s space inventory. This data is used as a critical component of indirect cost recovery (ICR), for university and departmental space management and planning, and as a basis for state and federal reporting. Each department is responsible for the accuracy of its data.
Moves and Space Requests
Requests for additional space or for reallocation of space should, in most cases, be submitted through the Annual Capital Projects & Space Requests (CPSR) process. For moves within a department or for minor space adjustments, a Space Change Notification Form may be submitted by your Department Space Surveyor. In all cases where room use or room occupants are modified in any way, it is important to use one of these processes so that space data can be updated, and so that emergency responders have an accurate location for University community members.
