Registration and Overrides
Select the type of Registration Error that is displayed in the Status field in Banner.
This status message (always in mixed case) indicates that the course requires approval for enrollment. Where or from whom the approval should be received is a part of the message. Please note that approval to enter a course does not override other restrictions (Level, Class, closed section, etc.) applicable to that course. A list of these messages are:
- Advisor Approval Required
- Permission of Co-op Office Required
- Dean’s Approval Required
- Department Approval Required
- Permission of EPD Office Required
- Independent Study-Permission Required
- Permission of Instructor Required
- Permission of CASL Advising Office Required
- Permission of Internship Office Required
- Permission of Program Director Required
- Permission of REACH Office Required
Student does not have the correct level required for taking the course (i.e. undergraduate attempting to register for a graduate level course).
Enrollment in the course is restricted to a specified major(s).
The course is restricted to a certain class level (e.g. Freshman, Senior, etc.).
This registration restriction, which is applied to a few select courses beginning the second week of classes, requires students to obtain the permission of the instructor to select the course. The restriction will display on a course as Instructor Approved Add Required. An electronic override may be given to a student for this restriction.
If the student receives an electronic override and is not on the class waitlist, the student should
- Login to Registration
- Verify that the override is present (look under the Registration Status link)
- Register for the course
If the student is on the waitlist for the course, the student should
- Login to Registration
- Verify that the override is present (look under the Registration Status link).
- Drop the course from his/her schedule. (Once the waitlisted section is dropped, the waitlist space cannot be recreated. Be sure that the override is in place prior to dropping the course.)
- Register for the course
The five-digit CRN you entered is not recognized by the system.
The meeting time of the course selected overlaps with another course selected. The course that overlaps in time is identified by the CRN.
The course has reached enrollment limit.
Student does not meet the prerequisite established for the course.
The course requested requires enrollment in another specified course and/or section. You can see the required link in the details for the course.
(CORQ_REQ)
The course requested requires enrollment in another specified course and/or section during the same semester or in a prior semester.
(DUPL CRSE WITH SEC-xxx message)
The course has the same subject and number of a section the student has already enrolled in. You may only enroll in one section of any course.
Enrolling in this course would mean that the student’s credit hours have exceed the maximum allowed for the student.
Most courses can be elected for credit only once. A few courses are repeatable for credit for a limited number of times. This error occurs when a student has exceeded the number of attempts allowed to repeat a course.
