Hey! My name is Quen, and I am a sophomore majoring in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance with a concentration in Privacy. I am a Peer Academic Coach aiming to assist students in achieving their academic and social goals to improve their experience at UM-Dearborn.
After graduating, I plan to pursue a career as a Cybersecurity Analyst, prayerfully with ties to the criminal justice system, and travel the world, fulfilling one of my greatest passions of choreographing for others. My other passions include teaching and participating in Gospel miming, singing and songwriting, and simply making others smile with jokes. I am ecstatic to alleviate any unnecessary strain my peers may experience while working toward their goals by providing our best PAL solutions to change the stress students commonly encounter in college. So, if you need direction or a second ear, PALS is here to help you!
Hi y’all my name is Dakota! I am a junior majoring in Supply Chain Management and Marketing with a minor in Accounting. As a Peer Academic Coach, I look forward to helping students navigate the craziness that is college by helping students learn how to utilize their strengths and the resources available to them. As well as offer advice from my personal experiences.
Besides helping students my other passions include painting, listening to music, Water Polo, and coffee. After college, I wish to work for a non-profit organization such as JDRF. I encourage my peers to reach out if they need advice on classes, time management or are just stressed about the future. I am here to help you achieve your goals and relieve your stress by providing PAL solutions and a friendly reminder that you are capable of anything as long as you believe in yourself!
All About PALS
PALS coach students from a peer perspective, as each PAL is a current student. Meeting with a PAL is an opportunity to hear from someone who is going through similar experiences while in college, but with the focus on you and your individual goals. PALS form a partnership with you to create a success plan and progress through that plan together, using specific tools, resources, and skill development techniques.
PALS also assist with some advising functions such as helping students fill out forms (change of major/minor, add/drop, etc.), navigate University systems, and complete registration requirements each semester.
If you are a freshman or first-year student at the university, you will need to schedule an appointment with your START advisor regardless, but you do NOT need to consult an advisor before meeting with a PAL.
Yes, PALS are able to meet with students to help navigate the registration process and explore DegreeWorks. More information about advising-related topics can be found in the crash course presentations on YouTube!
PALS can help you with study tips, test taking strategies, time management, registration, goal setting, note taking, online learning tips, instructor communication help, and more!
Feel free to reach out and we'd be happy to be in touch with you about any academically-related goal that you are thinking about!
All PALS appointments can be scheduled in the My UM-Dearborn Portal. Having trouble scheduling or aligning your availability for an appointment? Email us at [email protected] or click on the contact form below.
