Orientation Overview: Your Guide to a Successful Orientation Day!
Information for Incoming High School Students
- Meet New Students: Engage in activities and sessions to connect with other incoming students and gain valuable advice and tips from current students.
- Attend UM-Dearborn 101 & Support Sessions: Learn key insights into transitioning to UM-Dearborn, highlighting academic resources, student engagement opportunities, and available support services.
- Academic Advising & Course Registration: Meet with your academic advisor to review program requirements and register for your Fall 2025 classes.
- Lunch: A free lunch will be provided.
- Patio Party: Connect with faculty, staff, and other incoming students and enjoy connecting to campus.
- Campus Tour (optional): Get to know the campus with a guided walking tour.
- Log in to your Orientation Portal to review your major
If you wish to change your major, you must do so in advance of your orientation session in order to participate on your scheduled day. Complete and submit the Admission Information Change Form to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (umd-admissions@umich.edu). - Know Your UMID, Uniqname, and Password

Academic Advisors and Orientation Leaders will be on hand to guide you through the process, but these videos can help ensure it goes smoothly. Review before your orientation to be prepared to register for classes!- UM-Dearborn Student Portal Overview
- DegreeWorks Overview Tutorial Videos - DegreeWorks combines UM-Dearborn's degree requirements with any completed and in-progress college coursework (if applicable) into an easy-to-read worksheet that will help you see how credits earned count toward degree requirements. DegreeWorks also displays courses and requirements that still need to be completed.

- Submit Earned College Credit Documents (if applicable)
Any AP credits, dual enrollment, or early/middle college transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions prior to your scheduled orientation session. Transcripts must be sent to UM-Dearborn directly from the issuing institution to be considered official. Failure to provide in advance may impact your course registration. - Sign Up for a Current Student Mentor
Starting at a new campus can be both exciting and challenging. One of the best ways to ease your transition is by signing up to be matched with an upperclassmen current student mentor through Wolverine Mentor Collective. As a mentee, after you attend orientation, you’ll be connected with a current UM-Dearborn student who can make your college transition seamless and help you engage with opportunities across campus.

- Your personal laptop (if you have one) - throughout the day you can bookmark important website resources and complete your registration using your own device. If you do not have a laptop, computers will be available to use during registration.
- Photo ID

- Comfortable Clothes and Shoes (you will be walking around campus throughout the program)

Information for Incoming Transfer Students
Orientation Appointment (required): On your scheduled orientation (academic advising and registration appointment), you will meet 1-on-1 with your academic advisor to register for classes. Follow the instructions provided in your confirmation email to complete your appointment.

This session includes in-depth insights into the resources and support available to you as a UM-Dearborn student. From student services to academic assistance, we’ll ensure you know where to go and who to turn to for help. While this session is optional, it’s a great way to familiarize yourself with UM-Dearborn and connect with fellow transfer students. Register using the links below:

Parents and Supporters are welcome to attend the Patio Party (held from 2 - 3:30 pm in the Renick University Center) portion of their student's orientation day ONLY. Guests are not able to attend any other session of the student orientation program.
The following virtual orientation sessions are designed specifically for parents and supporters.
Parents and supporters of incoming UM-Dearborn students are invited to join us for an informative and engaging virtual orientation. This optional session will provide you with valuable insights into the UM-Dearborn community, key campus resources, and essential information to help guide and support your student as they begin their academic journey. Whether you're new to the university experience or just looking for helpful tips, this session will equip you with the tools to confidently support your student through their transition and success at UM-Dearborn.
