Wolverine Mentor Collective

Starting at a new campus can be challenging sometimes, and the Wolverine Mentor Collective (Wolverine MC) is available to enhance your student experience by connecting you to current UM-Dearborn Wolverines.

As a mentee, you'll learn what to expect from UM-Dearborn classes, how to connect to student organizations and other opportunities, start to build your network, and gain career advice and other valuable insights.

As a mentor, you can share your experiences at UM-Dearborn as you listen, inspire, and help students navigate challenges and recognize opportunities while developing your own professional and leadership skills.

Mentor Collective's online platform provides training and resources for student mentors and makes it easy for mentors and mentees to connect. All matches are made based on common interests, background, academics and professional aspirations. Pairings last throughout the academic year.

In addition to helping others, experience as a mentor can help you improve communication and interpersonal skills, develop leadership and management qualities, share and reflect on attributes needed for academic and professional success, and increase confidence and motivation. Don't forget to mention this experience in internship or job applications - such as in your resume and cover letter.

What do mentors and mentees discuss?

It's really up to you! As a mentee, you should take the initiative to reach out and engage with your mentor - what do you want to discuss? Some common topics include:

  • How do I balance the demands of school, responsibilities, and socializing?
  • How can I set myself up for academic, social, and career success?
  • What are resources available to me as a student?
  • What is it like to be a student at UM-Dearborn?

Remember, your mentor is there to help you, so share what's on your mind!
