Cleaning Out An Office Reference Guide

Requesting a Trash and Recycling Gondola

A trash and recycling gondola and/or bags can be requested through the AiM system.

You MUST have an AiM account prior to submitting an AiM request.

The request needs to be entered a few days prior to the clean out. (If a gondola will not be available on that date, you will be notified to select another date.)

  • Include the date that you would like it dropped off and the number of days you believe you will need the gondola.
  • Since there are a limited number of gondolas available, the Custodial Team will need to make sure the time frame does not conflict with other gondola needs.
  • Building and room number
  • Contact person
  • Trash and recycling bags are provided with the gondola. If you have a lot of trash to go through, request additional bags. If you have extra at the end of your cleaning, the Custodial Team will collect them. Just place them by the gondola.
  • Filled trash and recycling bags can be placed in the gondola together.

Please do not overfill the bags. Our Custodial Team has to lift each bag into the dumpster by hand.

To decrease landfill waste, remove papers that can be recycled from binders.

When the gondola is ready to be emptied, put in an AiM request or email [email protected]. If it is a large cleanout, this may need to be done multiple times.

  • If you need to continue working while waiting for the gondola to be dumped, continue filling bags and place them by the gondola. Do not block access to the gondola or it will not be able to be dumped.

Tips to help you get more into recycling then into the landfill.

  • Don’t rush. Take the time to make sure you are putting the items in the correct bag.
  • Remove loose papers from inside of binders. If the paper can be placed in recycling, remove it from the binder.
  • Reference the list often to see where something goes.

Lightly Used School/Office Supplies

As you clean, if you have lightly used school/office supplies, they can be donated to the Student Food Pantry located in the Renick University Center room 2130.

If you will be conducting major cleaning throughout your department, you might want to reach out to the Student Food Pantry to see how the items should be collected.

Shredding

If you have anything that needs to be shredded, see your department to find out how to handle this. Facilities Operations does not provide shredding support to the campus community.
