HPA New Student Sessions (HPA NSS)

The very first step towards your health professions career!

HPA New Student Sessions are offered to all UM-Dearborn students every Fall and Winter semester. HPA NSS covers all of the basics students need to know as future applicants to Health Professions graduate programs. Attendance at an HPA NSS is required before students are allowed to work with the HPA director and team.

HPA Application Sessions

Getting ready to apply to Health Professions (HP) Graduate School? Don't know how or where to start? Overwhelmed? Someone on campus can help you! Free of charge!

The HPA Application Sessions are for upper-level students (juniors, seniors, and alumni). Given by the HPA Director each year, the HPA Application Sessions start in January. The HPA Application Sessions cover everything you ever wanted to know about the application process and more! Students state that HPA Application sessions are very productive and helpful!

HPA Application Sessions e-mail invitation occurs in mid to late November to upper-level students and alumni. No RSVP is required, but attendance is expected to all 5 sessions if you want to mock interview with the HPA Director in preparation for interviews. HPA Application Sessions cover topics such as: Big Picture Timeline, Personal Statements, Experiences/Work Activities, Transcripts, SJTs, etc.  Along with the letters of evaluation and secondaries, the application sessions cover the administrative components/requirements of the application as well.

Don't miss out on these important sessions!

The University of Michigan-Dearborn, in partnership with Trinity Health, created and managed the Emergency Medicine Research Associate Program (EMRAP) since 2015-16.

Each year, through a competitive application process, 8-10 UM-Dearborn upperclass pre-Health Professions students participate in the program.  Currently, 9 UM-Dearborn pre-Med track or pre-Physician Assistant track students are EMRAP associates participating in the year long program.

Health Professions (HP) Schools Fair

UM-Dearborn HP Schools Info Fair 2019
UM-Dearborn HP Schools Fair 2019

The HPA Office in partnership with Career Services presents a biannual HP Schools Fair for all UM-Dearborn pre-Health Professions track students.

The HP Schools Fair is an opportunity for HP Graduate Schools from the US, come to UM-Dearborn to recruit and introduce themselves to students. The fair brings together over 30 schools with current UM-Dearborn students. The HP Schools Fair is a great opportunity for our students to meet HP Graduate School admission officers and begin their relationships with the HP schools.

The next HP Schools Information Fair will be in Spring (March) 2027

Pharmacy Preferred Admission Program

Do you want to be on the frontline of healthcare? As a future pharmacist, you're part of the community either as a retail pharmacist, or in the hospital, research lab, industry or academia. We're excited to share about the Pharmacy Preferred Admission Program the University of Michigan-Dearborn has with the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor College of Pharmacy (UM-COP).

Up to ten (10) UM-Dearborn students, either high school student admitted to UM-Dearborn or first year UM-Dearborn student, will be granted conditional assurance of admission annually to UM-COP. These students will earn their bachelor's degree from UM-Dearborn. Together with Health Professions Advising team, the students will work on which courses to take to best prepare academically and co-curriculars to work on for the PharmD program at UM-COP. If they meet the PharmD admission requirements, these students will have reserved seats in the UM-COP's PharmD program, setting them on the course for a successful career in the pharmacy field. If you have questions, please meet with our HPA Director.

Early Assurance Program (EAP)

Do you have college years of service working with underserved communities? If you're truly committed to serving the medically underserved locally (Michigan) and globally as a physician, then Michigan State University (MSU) College of Human Medicine (CHM), the allopathic (MD) medical school, may be for you! See MSU CHM Admissions

UM-Dearborn formed a partnership with MSU CHM Early Assurance Program (EAP). You can read more about the partnership. This isn't an early decision program. Rather, if MSU CHM is your first-choice medical school and your mission is their mission, then the MSU CHM EAP is something you may want to pursue.

Learn more when MSU CHM visits campus each fall to share information about their medical school (CHM) and the EAP. Set up an appointment with the HPA Director to find out if the EAP is your pathway and how to prepare your EAP application because the application cycle is not the same as the typical cycle. Please note: The UM-Dearborn MSU CHM EAP is not for UM-Dearborn alumni, or those seeking an early-decision program, or those already in the current MD or DO application cycle.
