Student Advising and Resource Team

START: Student Advising & Resource Team

Student Advising and Resource Team (START) assists students making their way as they enter the university. Students receive advising with START beginning at orientation. Students will transition from START to their academic unit's advising office on an individual basis depending on their academic progress.

START Office is Working Remotely During COVID-19

Due to current health concerns related to COVID-19, the START office is currently working remotely. The best way to contact the office or to schedule an appointment is by email (umd-start@umich.edu). START will continue to monitor emails, as well as voicemail, during normal business hours. Our team is working remotely over email and Google Hangout Meet to support your academic advising needs.

START Office Hours

Regular Hours

START is open Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm.

Advising appointments are Monday through Friday 9 am to 4 pm.

Appointments should be scheduled 24 hours in advance. Appointment times outside of our regular hours can be made available upon request.

START

What is START?

START is the newest academic advising office at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

How many advising offices are on-campus?

UM-Dearborn has five academic advising offices. Four of the offices are in the four academic units. START is the first campus wide advising office. All incoming students both first year and transfer (except for COB transfer) will be assigned to START for advising in their first semester on campus.

What makes START different from other advising offices on campus?

START serves incoming students (with the exception of COB transfer students) by providing academic advising and resources. START focuses time and attention on ensuring students have a strong foundation as they transition into the university and orient to campus. We work closely with the academic unit advising offices to ensure students receive accurate information relating to their major.
