Admission Criteria
To be admitted to the University of Michigan-Dearborn, students need to meet specific requirements and submit the required documents. See the detailed application requirements for more information.
Application Information
- Applying to the University of Michigan-Dearborn is FREE! Please remind your students there is NO fee to apply.
- We recommend that students use their personal email versus using a school email so that they are able access their portal after high school graduation.
- All students will use the University of Michigan-Dearborn application portal to check their application status, regardless of the application program they use. If a student applies with the Common App, the student should wait to receive an email from UM-Dearborn prior to setting up the application portal account.
Academic Performance
We utilize students’ academic performance, GPA, and trend in grades, when making all admissions decisions. Please view the following chart for admissible GPAs.

*Based on GPA at the time of admission. Most students will receive a decision based on a GPA after their junior year, but we may require first semester senior year grades before finalizing admission decisions.

At the University of Michigan-Dearborn, we recognize the diversity in the lived experiences of our students and that students may overcome many obstacles in their high school careers. For students who do not meet the 3.0 Guaranteed Admission, a written Personal Statement is their opportunity to inform the Undergraduate Admissions Office on the particular challenges they met that impacted their high school academic performance and their plan on being successful in college. All students who are test optional and are below a 3.0 will be required to submit a personal statement upon request responding to a specific prompt.
First year student applicants must provide official high School transcripts in order to complete their admissions application. Emailed photo copies by students are not accepted by the Undergraduate Admissions Office.

Final Transcripts
After your students have been accepted and final official transcripts are available, we request that their final high school transcript be submitted no later than August 1st to ensure their financial aid can be disbursed in a timely manner.
High School Students with College Credit
First year students transferring college credit through Early Middle College, AP/IB courses, or dual enrollment programs must provide separate official transcripts for both high school and college courses. Official high school transcripts including the college courses may not be used for the purpose of credit evaluation in transferring credits. Students who wish to have their college credits transferred to UM-Dearborn must have their official college transcript sent directly from the institution where courses were taken to UM-Dearborn to be considered for transfer credit.
Students can view a list of accepted AP and IB courses along with the scores necessary to receive credit in the AP and IB Credit Chart.
University of Michigan-Dearborn’s test-optional admissions policy allows students to choose at the point of application whether to have SAT or ACT test scores considered as part of the application.
Enrollment Deposits
All admitted freshmen and transfers are required to submit a non-refundable enrollment deposit. A waiver, granted in cases of financial hardship, allows a student to complete Orientation and other enrollment steps without paying the deposit.

Application Timeline
High school students are able to start their admissions applications the summer entering their senior year either on our website or the Common Application.
All students are notified by the University through the email they used to submit their application, please have them refer back to their email for requests for missing application documents and the link to their Application Portal to view their Official Admissions Decision.
