Britta Roan, M.S., Associate Director of Career Services
Britta Roan’s focus is in the area of Career Education. She develops and teaches career planning courses and workshops which assist students in developing the skills necessary to make informed career decisions based on research, exploration of values and temperament, experiential learning, and developing the networking and communication skills necessary to succeed and transition through the inevitable changes which ensue in any career.
Certified in delivering Myers-Briggs workshops as well as interpreting a host of other interest and strength assessments, she runs workshops for student groups to increase their level of self-knowledge and ability to work collaboratively in teams. Having studied Counselor Education at the post-graduate level, she supervises undergraduate and graduate interns as they develop the necessary skills to coach and counsel students in their career development as well as job preparation. Britta serves as a member of the CASL- SOAR Advisory Board and launched a Toastmasters Career BEST club which assists students in their communication and leadership skill development. She is an alumna of the University of Michigan-Dearborn and enjoys connecting and collaborating in the supportive, diverse, and difference-making environment of UM-Dearborn.
Mai Qazzaz, Assistant Director of Career Services
Mai Qazzaz specializes in employer relations on campus. Mai works on getting employers to participate in the different recruiting events on campus like career fairs, info sessions, workshops, promo tables and more that will lead to hiring UM-Dearborn students & alumni. Some of the major recruiting events are Ford Day, GE Day, the Fall and Spring Career Fairs, Education Career Fair, Health & Human Services Career Fair, and the Federal & Non-profit Career Fair. Mai works with different campus community like the Office of Financial Aid to help with work-study program on-campus & off-campus with non-profit organizations, the START Office on co-sponsoring the Health Professions Schools Information Fair, and participating in the Office of Admissions fairs.
Jennifer Macleod, Program Manager
Jennifer Macleod is a Career and Employment Readiness Manager at Career Services. Her focus is on career readiness and student support, as well as program development and cross-campus collaboration at UM-Dearborn. She is the advisor for the National Society of Leadership and Success program, a career coach, and facilitates career-centered and personal development workshops. Jennifer graduated with her MA in Educational Leadership with a focus in Higher Education Student Affairs from Eastern Michigan University. At Eastern Michigan, she worked with at-risk student populations as a teacher and success coach for three years. She is optimistic, passionate about personal growth, and enjoys learning from each person she meets. She strives to be a positive resource and guide for her students by staying student-focused. Jennifer feels college is a place to grow, where individuals can strengthen their mind, explore passions, develop transferable skills, gain an understanding of personal values, and prepare for a future career.
Josh Palmer, Program Manager - Experience+
Josh Palmer serves as the Program Manager of Experience+. His work with the Talent Gateway helps students to develop habits that will enable them to make the most of their experiences in and outside of the classroom by using the NACE career competencies to help them develop the soft skills employers are looking for. Josh graduated with his MA in Educational Leadership with a focus in Higher Education Student Affairs from Eastern Michigan University. As an undergraduate at Central Michigan University, he was involved with the Sarah R. Opperman Leadership Institute, academic orientation, and much more. Emily Chippa, Office Manager
Emily serves as the Office Manager for Career Services. She is an alumna of the University, having graduated with a BA in Psychology in the Fall of 2017. Emily joined the Career Services team as an undergraduate intern and worked as the lead student employee prior to holding her current position. Her passion for mental health, and assisting others along their journey of professional development, has allowed her the opportunity to connect with all facets of the campus community.
Kelsey Z., Student Career Peer Lead
Kelsey is a College of Business student majoring in Digital Marketing with a minor in History. In addition to working as a Career Peer in Career Services and the Talent Gateway, she is also the Student Advisor for the National Society of Leadership and Success. She enjoys co-exploring with students while supporting them on their path to reaching their career-best. She assists them by providing them with resume reviews, career exploration tips, and more!
Laurie Sutch, Experience+ Senior Associate Director
With more than 20 years of experience in higher education, academic technology, and facilitation, Laurie has written several articles and presented at a variety of conferences about technology and campus collaboration as well as leadership development and innovative initiatives. Laurie was founding Executive Director of the Talent Gateway, as of November 2019, also oversees UM-Dearborn's Career Services, and is currently the Experience+ Senior Associate Director. Laurie comes to this position from Bentley University, where she served two years as the Director of the Library and Academic Technology. From 1997-2014, she was Director of the Academic Technology Group at the University of Michigan Library. Laurie received her Master of Information and Library Studies as well as B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She participated in the CLIR/EDUCAUSE Leading Change Institute in 2014.
