First Gen Programming
As a first generation student you are among the first in your family to go to college. Being first gen is a point of accomplishment and pride! That said, we also recognize that being the first can be a challenge.
The First Gen Program at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is designed to inform, connect, and celebrate first generation college students.
At UM-Dearborn, a first generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s) or guardian(s) did not have the opportunity to complete a bachelor's degree.

Student Support Services
The SSS program provides opportunities for academic development, assistance with basic college requirements, and motivation toward the successful completion of postsecondary education. This program is targeted towards students at the University of Michigan-Dearborn who are considered low income, first generation, and/or academically at risk so that we can provide them assistance to overcome social and financial barriers. The program includes academic tutoring, assistance in postsecondary course selection, assistance with information on financial aid programs, and assistance in completing financial aid applications. Their goal is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of our students.
