50 things to do before you graduate from UM-Dearborn

Have you been meaning to make an extensive bucket list, but have yet to get around to it? Don’t fret! That’s what we’re here for. This is THE LIST for the 50 things all Dearborn Wolverines should do before graduation day.

  1. Get a picture with the Block M in front of the RUC.
  2. Go for a walk on our nature trail.
  3. Join a student org.
  4. Go to a Student Government meeting.
  5. Attend a Natural Science Colloquium.
  6. Attend a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Session or go to one of the University Learning Centers (math, science, and writing!).
  7. Go to the Detroit Institute of Arts – free for Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne residents.
  8. Attend a Dearborn Wolverines game (Go Blue! Go Dearborn!).
  9. Study in the bird watching room at the Environmental Interpretive Center (EIC).
  10. Study at least once on each floor of the Mardigian library – they are organized by noise level, find your favorite spot! (Mine is the 3rd floor by the windows).
  11. Join a pre-professional society; you will receive great feedback and recommendations.
  12. Volunteer with the food pantry or Dearborn Support – help your peers!
  13. Participate in student-led initiatives.
  14. Visit Mexican Town in Detroit.
  15. Tutor subjects you are good at – we love SI leaders!
  16. Get a picture with the Chancellor.
  17. Go to a Michigan football game at the Big House.
  18. Join a sports club or go to the gym at the fieldhouse – stay active!
  19. Make it into the Dean’s list at least once!
  20. Read a book by the Chancellor’s Pond.
  21. Participate in the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program.
  22. Volunteer with Planet Blue Ambassadors.
  23. Ice skate at the Fieldhouse. Just take your UM card with you and borrow a pair of ice skates!
  24. Attend an event at the RUC Patio.
  25. Get an on-campus job in a field you enjoy.
  26. Join a research lab.
  27. Go to a seminar in Ann Arbor – you are a U-M Student, enjoy your resources!
  28. If you need help, resources are available: Office of International Affairs, Dearborn Support, Student Government, CAPS, and many more!
  29. Attend a “Public Nights at the Observatory” at the Natural Sciences Building (NSB).
  30. Stay off social media for 24 hours.
  31. Apply for a UM-Dearborn (or even some UM-AA) study abroad program.
  32. Volunteer over 50 hours on campus!
  33. Meet 10 UM-Dearborn students from 10 different countries.
  34. Attend a career fair.
  35. Join the E-Board of a club – or start one that you think the campus needs!
  36. Make maple syrup with the EIC.
  37. Check out all the on-campus expositions: NSB fossils and geodes collections, art exhibits at the Mardigian Library, and Engineering Lab Building (ELB) expositions.
  38. Participate in on-campus events and competitions: Hack Dearborn, SAB sport events, Homecoming, and many more!
  39. Check out the Greenhouse at the NSB – it’s one of our hidden gems!
  40. Take a class outside of your major – or consider taking a minor.
  41. Take a picture of a squirrel (a fat squirrel).
  42. Attend Holi – thank you, Indian Graduate Students Association!
  43. Check out the Henry Ford Museum and the Village – free for UM-Dearborn students!
  44. Run or vote in a Student Government election.
  45. Pull an all-nighter – good luck!
  46. Go on a road trip with friends.
  47. Talk to someone you don’t know on campus.
  48. Get your friends and professors' contacts – never forget them.
  49. Get a picture with our Campus Celebrity – Bruce the Goose!
  50. Graduate!

If you have done all these, congratulations! You are next-level impressive. And if you are getting started, enjoy your time at UM-Dearborn!
