Student Support Services
Our program provides opportunities for academic development, assistance with basic college requirements, and motivation toward the successful completion of postsecondary education. This program is targeted towards students at the University of Michigan-Dearborn who are considered low income, first generation, and/or academically at risk so that we can provide them assistance to overcome social and financial barriers. Our program includes academic tutoring, assistance in postsecondary course selection, assistance with information on financial aid programs, and assistance in completing financial aid applications. Our goal is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of our students.

Student Feedback
Below is feedback from current and former SSS Program participants regarding the highlights of the services they have utilized.
- "Thank you to [my tutor/mentor]. This semester I have done extremely well in Chem 134, and a lot of it is because I had such an awesome tutor. I was able to achieve perfect scores on two of my quizzes, and earn a 93% on one of my exams. I love SSS, and I think it's such a great resource for students. Thank you so much for your support, and you truly are such a great tutor."
- "I love the ability to be able to meet with a mentor/tutor because it helps that they actually know what students are going through because they were once or are students."

- "My advisor was always a very helpful advisor. She provided pretty detailed answers to all and any of my questions, and we met once per semester. In every meeting she communicated in a friendly professional manner. She was deeply knowledgeable about just anything on a campus. I'm still feeling thankful to her for doing thoughtful edits of three of my essays for the UM-Dearborn scholarship competition. Honestly, I don't even know what has to be done better in the SSS advising."

I owe a huge shout-out to my SSS advisor and mentor who really pushed me to apply for scholarships, even when I thought it was impossible to get any. Without my SSS advisor and mentor, I would have missed out on three incredible scholarships. Thanks to SSS, I can use this money towards my tuition and essential needs! SSS has been my go-to support system throughout my college journey, providing me with a ton of valuable information that has seriously improved my finances and academic skills.
