Counseling Services

Welcome to Counseling Services.

Counseling Services is committed to creating an environment based on our values of multicultural, multi-disciplinary and multi-theoretical practices that allow our diverse student body to access care, receive high quality services and take positive pathways to mental health. We also strive to find creative ways of reaching out to students and the UM-Dearborn community to nurture and develop a proactive, renewed sense of engagement throughout the campus.
Personal Counseling:

Short term counseling is available to registered UM-Dearborn students at no cost. Additionally, UM-Dearborn faculty and staff are eligible for counseling via the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FASAP). Note: We do not counsel students by e-mail.

Counseling Services are strictly confidential in accordance with Michigan Privilege Communication Statutes. No information is released without written permission and no information is entered in a student's college record.

How to make an appointment:
The first step towards receiving counseling services is to set up an appointment. You can do this by visiting us on the 2nd floor of the UC at 2157. Please inform our office if your concern is urgent and if you need to be seen immediately. When you visit Counseling Services you will be given some short forms to read and complete, which will let you know what to expect and will allow you to provide some information about yourself for your counselor. We will also ask you to give us some information regarding your availability. Normally, students are able to schedule a counseling appointment in 1 - 2 weeks.
