Experiential Learning

Learn by Doing. Make an Impact.

At UM-Dearborn, learning extends beyond the classroom. Through iLabs, College of Business students apply what they are learning to the real challenges, opportunities and decisions facing organizations today.

As the college’s hub for innovation and experiential learning, iLabs connects students with businesses, community organizations, faculty and industry professionals. Students work with real-world information, explore complex business challenges and develop solutions that create meaningful value.

Along the way, they build the practical skills employers value, including critical thinking, communication, collaboration, research and data analysis. They also gain experience and confidence they can carry into their careers.

Whether serving as an iLabs Student Project Consultant or competing in a case competition, UM-Dearborn students do not just study business. They put it into action.

Case Competitions

The iLabs Case Competition challenges students to work in teams on a real-world business problem. Participants analyze the case, develop strategic recommendations and present their solutions to a panel of judges.

It is an opportunity to turn classroom knowledge into action, gain valuable feedback and strengthen problem-solving, teamwork and presentation skills while experiencing the energy of collaborative competition.

Student Project Consultants

iLabs Student Project Consultants work with iLabs leadership, project partners, and an industry mentor on real-world research and consulting projects. Open to eligible students across UM-Dearborn, the program offers hands-on experience, professional skill development, and the opportunity to help organizations make informed decisions.

Since 2006, more than 200 students have put their learning into practice through iLabs projects.
