We are dedicated to helping students refine and strengthen the academic skills necessary for success at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The College of Business offers resources to not only help students pass their classes, but empower them to become independent thinkers. The strategies that students gain through our support programs will help them to excel at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and beyond.

Get Help with a Business Course

We offer tutoring in DS 301, DS 302 and DS 520, as well as supplemental instruction through peer-led group study sessions in ACC 298, ACC 299, DS 301, DS 302 and FIN 401.

Writing Program

The Writing Program at the College of Business provides Business Communication Consultation to help students further develop their written and oral presentation skills enhancing their professional presence. Business Communication faculty are available to work with students one-on-one, or with a small group, to help students develop communications for class assignments.

Academic Advising

COB advisors are available to provide information about program requirements, University policies and procedures, and campus resources. Advising appointments are available by phone or in person, day or evening.

In addition, faculty are available to discuss their fields of expertise, course content, and possible career paths. Faculty are available during scheduled office hours and often by special appointment.

We can connect you with a business professional that can help you achieve your professional goals and navigate the job market.

Coaching Program

Are you trying to decide on your major? Have you got it narrowed down to 2 or 3 possibilities and would like a hand in looking for possible career opportunities? Would you like to strengthen your business network? Do you have other career related questions that you need answers to? Our career coaches can help you to sort out these questions and more. 

Our career coaches are recent alumni (≈3-5 years) that have successfully navigated the job market to land their first career position. They have recently been in your shoes and can further assist you to successfully launch your career. Expectations of the program include:

  • Committing 4-5 hours a month to completing the assignments and activities associated with the program
  • Participate in the required and recommended activities
  • Personally document ongoing activities and accomplishments
  • Develop/Enhance your personal Career Acceleration Plan and produce a video resume

To apply for a Career Coach submit a personal statement outlining the following to with "Career Coaching Program Application" in the subject line. Attendance at the Career Preparation seminar is mandatory prior to being matched with a coach. 

  • Why do you want to be part of the Career Coaching Program?
  • What are your current life, school, home, family, etc. commitments?
  • What are your expectations and outcomes from the program?

Once approved, you will be invited to connect with a coach. 

Writing Center

The Writing Center offers peer consultants who can help you become a more effective and confident writer and researcher, no matter your field of study or expertise.
