Marketing 4+1 Option
Move on to your master's degree more quickly and at less cost.
The Marketing 4+1 option at the University of Michigan-Dearborn allows you to earn both a UM-Dearborn bachelor's degree and the Master of Science in Marketing with a substantial savings of time and money.
You can double-count up to five master's-level marketing courses toward your undergraduate degree, if applicable. Not only will you save five courses, but you'll only be charged the undergraduate base tuition rate for those five master's courses.* The total value of the course substitutions is approximately $16,000 if you go on to complete the MS in Marketing, assuming part-time enrollment at resident tuition rates.
*You'll be charged the slightly higher graduate course premium, an extra $50 per credit hour compared to the undergraduate course premium as of the 2024-25 academic year.
Marketing 4+1 Curriculum for BBA Marketing Majors
In the Marketing 4+1 option, you would complete the curriculum requirements for the BBA Marketing major and the MS in Marketing, but you could substitute up to five courses with the following graduate-level courses:
MKT 582 - Understanding Customers (replaces MKT 382)*
MKT 602 - Advanced Marketing Management (replaces MKT 402)*
MKT 564 - Marketing Research (replaces MKT 454)*
MKT 622 - Global Marketing (replaces MKT 457)*
MKT 621 - Advertising and Promotions (replaces MKT 458)*
Choose two from the following:
MKT 360 - Marketing and Society
MKT 363 - Digital Consumer Search and Marketing
MKT 534 - Sales Management and Personal Selling (replaces MKT 434)*
MKT 436 - Business-to-Business Marketing
MKT 455 - E-tailing and Retailing
MKT 460 - Digital Communication Strategy
MKT 563 - Digital Marketing (replaces MKT 463)*
MKT 471 - Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Creativity
MKT 498 - Research: Marketing
ENT 400 - Entrepreneurial Thinking and Behavior
*In order to receive the full benefit of the 4+1 option, make sure you enroll in the 500- and 600-level courses, not the corresponding undergraduate courses. Up to five of these courses (15 credits) may double-count in the BBA Marketing major and the MS-Marketing program.
The Marketing 4+1 option encourages students to pursue more advanced coursework in the MS-Marketing program. As a result, Marketing 4+1 students may not receive credit for MKT 515, 534, 563, 564, 582, 602, 621, or 622 in the Master's program if those students have earned a B or better in the equivalent undergraduate courses of MKT 352, 434, 363, 454, 382, 402, 458, 457, respectively. Instead, Marketing 4+1 students must replace these courses with more advanced electives from the MS-Marketing program.
Marketing 4+1 Curriculum for Non-Marketing Majors
In the Marketing 4+1 option, you would complete the curriculum requirements for your undergraduate degree program and the MS in Marketing, but you would take up to five of the following courses as electives in your undergraduate program.
Please speak with your academic advisor to plan your courses and make sure you understand how many free elective courses you have.

*In order to receive the full benefit of the 4+1 option, make sure you enroll in the 500- and 600-level courses, not the corresponding undergraduate courses. Up to five of these courses (15 credits) may double-count in your undergraduate degree program and the MS-Marketing program.
