Select Student Support Services (4S)
The Student Support Services (4S) Program at the University of Michigan–Dearborn is funded by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) and is part of the King-Chávez-Parks (KCP) Initiative. The program is designed to improve student retention and graduation rates by supporting students who may benefit from additional academic, financial, and personal resources.
The 4S Program supports students who are low-income, first-generation college students, students with disabilities, or students who demonstrate academic need.
Services Provided
- Academic tutoring
- Guidance in selecting academic courses
- Information about public and private scholarships and financial aid programs
- Assistance with completing financial aid applications
- Financial literacy and economic education
- Support with applications to graduate and professional programs (for four-year students)
- Assistance with transferring to four-year institutions and securing financial aid (for two-year students)
Additional Support
In addition to the services listed above, the 4S Program provides:
- Personalized academic and personal counseling
- Mentoring programs
- Opportunities to participate in cultural and educational events
Who Is Eligible?
To participate in the 4S Program, students must:
- Be a current student at the University of Michigan–Dearborn
- Meet citizenship requirements
- Be a resident of Michigan
Students must also meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Be a low-income student (Pell Grant eligible)
- Be a first-generation college student (neither parent has a bachelor’s degree)
- Be registered with Disability and Accessibility Services
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or below
- Be required to take remedial (developmental) courses
