Co-Curricular Assessment
Many programs and offices across campus engage students in learning outside of the classroom, from internship programs to student organizations to the library. Many of these programs have articulated student learning outcomes (such as leadership skills, career knowledge, research skills) and regularly assess how well their programs facilitate student learning in targeted areas.
Co-Curricular assessment provides UM-Dearborn with a broader picture of our students’ total and wide-ranging learning experiences. By supplementing academic program assessment, co-curricular assessment allows us to gauge our students’ exposure to UM-Dearborn’s Goals for the Undergraduate Experience, especially the last three of those goals: Collaboration, Cultural Understanding, and Citizenship.
The Co-Curricular Assessment Subcommittee collects assessment plans in fall and assessment reports each summer. Some of the programs so far include:

Co-Curricular Assessment Subcommittee
The Subcommittee assists in the coordination and oversight of co-curricular assessment in support of university-level assessment, utilizing a distributed model for assessment with local responsibility. The Subcommittee assists the Assessment Subcommittee in maintaining the University Assessment Plan by monitoring and supporting assessment activities in co-curricular units in Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management and Student Life. Subcommittee Goals:
- Develop, execute, and oversee a plan to implement assessment activities in all relevant or applicable co-curricular units by 2023
- Facilitate and monitor assessment and reporting activities by co-curricular units
- Support university-wide assessment strategies by supplementing academic assessment to gauge students’ total and wide-ranging learning experiences.
