Admitted Non-Degree Students

Congratulations on being admitted into one of UM-Dearborn’s non-degree programs. Whether you’re taking a few classes as a guest student, fulfilling graduate school prerequisites or learning for personal enrichment, we’re glad you’re here.

UM-Dearborn Non-Degree Student Checklist 

Here are a few things to take care of before you begin. 

Activate Your Email Account

When you were admitted to UM-Dearborn, you should have received an email with your eight-digit UMID number and instructions for setting up your uniqname (Wolverine ID) and umich.edu email account. If you still need to set this up, you may do so at the IT website. 

Complete Placement Exams (if applicable)

Non-degree students who need to take the ALEKS Math placement exam can access the assessment here. Log in with your uniqname and password and follow the on-screen instructions to start and submit the exam. Good luck! Get additional information on the math placement exam website.

Submit Transcripts

All students who have satisfied pre-requisites for UM-Dearborn courses at another institution must submit a copy of that transcript (an unofficial copy is acceptable) for verification.

  • Guest, Personal Enrichment, Alumni Enrichment and Undergraduate Certificate Programs students: submit transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. For instructions, please email: [email protected].
  • Prospective Degree Students: submit transcripts to the START Office. A prerequisite override will be issued only if proof of satisfactory completion of the prerequisite (s) is provided. For instructions, please email [email protected].

Pay Your Bill

Be sure to check tuition due dates, payment methods and policies. 

Register for Classes

You can register for courses online through the My UM-Dearborn Student Portal. Find specific dates and details at the UM-Dearborn Registration Timetable.

Some programs may require academic advising before registration; view requirements and contacts in the next section. 

Academic Advising Requirements and Information 

Depending on program and student type, some non-degree students may require a meeting with an academic advisor. 

Guest, Personal Enrichment and Alumni Enrichment Students

These student types do not require advising, but assistance is available as needed from the Student Advising and Resource Team.

Prospective Degree Students (PDS)

All PDS students must meet with an academic advisor prior to registering for classes. Contact the Student Advising and Resource Team (START) at 313-593-5576 or [email protected] to schedule your advising appointment.

Post-Degree Teacher Certification Students

Teacher certification students must meet with an advisor at least once a year, even if only to clarify the sequence and/or semester in which courses should be taken. Plan to schedule an advising appointment prior to or during your first semester on campus. For more information, email the College of Education, Health and Human Services at [email protected].

Undergraduate Certificate Program Students

Certificate students can reach out to their specific program advisor:
