Career Resources
College of Engineering and Computer Science students have access to career support and resources through both the CECS Career Success Hub and UM-Dearborn’s Career Services. This page includes some curated information and resources for your career journey.
Career Coaching
Career coaching provides support tailored to what you need, when you need it. Whether you’re exploring career options or actively applying for positions, coaching sessions can help you build clarity, skills, and momentum. Common topics include starting a job or internship search, reviewing your resume, preparing for interviews, networking, and making career decisions.
Whether you have a quick question or need more in-depth support, there are multiple ways to connect with the CECS Career Success Hub.
Need time to talk through a career question, get feedback, or work through your next steps? Schedule a 1:1 appointment with a Career Success Hub Career Coach.
Appointments can be helpful for:
- Exploring career options, interests, or goals
- Developing an internship or job search strategy
- Reviewing a resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, or other career materials
- Preparing for interviews, networking, or career fairs
- Talking through a career-related challenge or decision
- Getting connected with career resources and opportunities
What to expect: Career coaching is a conversation focused on what you need. Your coach may ask questions, share strategies and resources, provide feedback, or help you practice. You do not need to have everything figured out before your appointment. If you're not sure where to start, that's okay. We can help you identify a starting point and next steps.
Current CECS students can schedule in-person and virtual appointments through the student portal, My UM-Dearborn. After signing in, please click the ‘Schedule an Appointment’ button and look for CECS Career Success Hub or Katie Dunn.
Have a quick career question or need help with something specific? Join virtual drop-in career coaching. No appointment is needed.
Drop-ins are a good fit for questions such as:
- “Can you take a quick look at my resume?”
- “How should I prepare for the career fair?”
- “How do I use Wolverine Career Connections?”
- “I’m starting my internship search. Where should I begin?”
- “Can you help me think through this interview question?”
What to expect: Drop-in coaching is designed for quick questions and focused support. Add yourself to the virtual queue during drop-in hours, and a Career Success Hub team member will connect with you when it's your turn. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis, so wait times may vary, and space may be limited during busy periods.
Current students can join the Virtual Career Coaching queue on Tuesdays, 3-4 p.m.
Get career support from students who have been through the process.
Career searching can feel easier when you can talk with someone who has recently been in your shoes. Career Success Hub Peer Career Coaches are CECS students who have successfully navigated the internship search process and are trained to provide peer-to-peer career support.
Peer Career Coaches can help you:
- Get started with an internship or job search
- Review your resume or LinkedIn profile
- Prepare for career fairs, networking, and interviews
- Talk through questions about the career search process
- Find career resources and opportunities
- Practice how you talk about your skills and experiences
What to expect: Peer Career Support is a casual, student-centered way to get career help. Bring a specific question or just come with an idea of what you'd like to work on. Your Peer Career Coach can share their experience, offer feedback, point you toward resources, and help you identify next steps. If your question would benefit from more in-depth support, they can always help connect you with the Career Success Hub team.
