Supplemental Instruction
Strength in numbers! Drop in on our SI sessions when you need help.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic assistance program based on peer-assisted study sessions. SI sessions are regularly-scheduled informal review sessions in which students compare class notes, discuss assigned readings, practice problem solving, develop organizational tools and predict test items. Participants learn how to integrate course content and study skills while working together.
The sessions are facilitated by “SI leaders,” students who have previously taken the courses and have done well in them. The SI leaders also attend all the lectures, take notes and are model students. The main purpose of this program is to improve students’ grades and increase student graduation rates. SI is new this year in the College of Business, but the final grade for students who attended other SI programs averaged ½ to one full grade higher than for non-attendees. Please feel free to drop in.
