The mission of the Mitchell Business Communication Lab is to help each student become a clear, concise, correct, persuasive and thoughtful writer and speaker.

The Mitchell Business Communication Lab at the College of Business provides Business Communication Consultation to help students further develop their written communication skills, enhancing their professional presence. Consultants are available to work with students one-on-one, or with a small group, to help students develop business deliverables for class assignments.

Business Communication Consultation appointments are available online for undergraduate students in College of Business courses.

Hours and Location

The Mitchell Business Communication Lab offers online and in-person appointments. In-person appointments are located at the College of Business in Room 152 FCS. If you have any questions, please email the Director of the Mitchell Business Communication Lab at The University of Michigan-Dearborn Writing Center is a great resource for classes outside the College of Business. The Writing Center is also an excellent option if the appointments available in the MBCL do not fit your schedule.

Welcome to the Mitchell Business Communication Lab! I am Christine Fischer, Director of the Mitchell Business Communication Lab and Lecturer in Business Communication and Management Studies. The MBCL is dedicated to assisting students with their business communication skills. Communication Consultants

Aamna Aamir (she/her)

Aamna is a senior majoring in Accounting. She has years of work experience in the retail industry and has tutored elementary-aged children in many subjects. She successfully completed the managerial communication course at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, College of Business, and was a member of the highest performing group project team in her class. After graduating from U of M Dearborn, Aamna plans on working in the accounting field and pursue her C.P.A. In her free time, she enjoys exploring new culinary endeavors.

Bassam Atheeque Valai

Bassam Atheeque is currently pursuing his Master’s in Data Science at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Prior to this, he completed his Bachelor’s in Engineering and Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration. He has four years of professional experience as a Manager (Business Analyst) wherein he gained business knowledge working with various clients and managing his team. Outside of work, he is interested in cricket, pets, graphic designing and stock market investing. Bassam looks forward to helping students to advance their business communication skills.

Zeinab Kourani

Zeinab is a third-year student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s College of Business, pursuing a degree in Finance with a minor in Accounting. She has work experience in sales, retail, customer service, and mentorship. Her background in communication started in the retail industry, where customer contact was necessary to gain sales. She has completed several writing courses, including the managerial communication course at the College of Business. She is active in the mentor collective at the University of Michigan-Dearborn helping first and second-year college students acclimate to life in college. After completing her Bachelors of Business Administration, Zeinab plans to take the CFP exam as she focuses on becoming a Certified Financial Planner.

The Donor Gift from the Patricia W. Mitchell Trust

In 2021, The College of Business at the University of Michigan-Dearborn received $250,000 in support from the Patricia W. Mitchell Trust that will support the Business Communication Lab. The lab was named the John H. and Patricia W. Mitchell Business Communication Lab to honor the legacy of Columbia Pictures Television Founder John H. Mitchell (A.B. '39, UM-Ann Arbor) and his wife, Patricia Mitchell. This gift is matched with $250,000 from other gift funds in the College of Business to create a $500,000 endowment to support the lab.
