Guest Students
Enrolled at another college or university? You can still take classes at UM-Dearborn!
This is a great opportunity to earn credits that you can transfer back to your home institution. Some guest students are looking for specific courses that their school may not offer. Others live locally and take a few courses here over the summer. Whatever your situation, we’re glad you're interested in being our guest!
Program Overview and Policies
- You may enroll as a guest student for a maximum of four semesters.
- A new application is required for each semester you wish to enroll.
- It is your responsibility to determine whether the course(s) taken at UM-Dearborn will transfer to your home institution.
Admissions Requirements
- A posted cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better on your most recent home institution transcript
- If you have been previously enrolled here, the admissions decision will also be based on your UM-Dearborn GPA
- Completed prerequisites for the class(es) you wish to take; your transcript(s) will be used to verify completion of those requirements
How to Apply as a Guest Student
Complete the Online Non-Degree Application:
- Select “Undergraduate Guest” if your home institution is a non-University of Michigan campus, or
- Select “Undergraduate Guest/Consortium Agreement” if your home institution is UM-Ann Arbor or UM-Flint
Deadline: Applications will be accepted until midnight the day before classes begin each semester.
Paper Application Option for Institutional Use
While the preferred method to apply is through the Online Non-Degree Application, a paper guest application [PDF] is available for institutions that require it. This form is intended primarily for colleges and universities submitting materials on behalf of their students. Completed applications and supporting documents should be submitted via email to [email protected].
International Guest Students

Cost and Financial Considerations
Guest students are not considered degree-seeking students at UM-Dearborn and are not eligible for financial aid. Special financial planning may be needed to meet educational expenses. View UM-Dearborn Tuition Information.
