Plagiarism Detection

Turnitin SimCheck is UM-Dearborn's plagiarism detection service.  Turnitin SimCheck is an improved version of the VeriCite platform used at UM-Dearborn since 2017, which Turnitin acquired in 2018.  Turnitin SimCheck compares student submissions to resources on the public Internet, to previous submissions of student papers, and to some licensed resources and generates a report of similar content which may be viewed by the instructor of record and the student (at the instructor's discretion).  Turnitin SimCheck is integrated into Canvas, streamlining the submission and plagiarism detection process for students and faculty.

Using Turnitin SimCheck in a Canvas course

Since Turnitin SimCheck is integrated with the Canvas plagiarism framework, it only takes a simple selection to enable plagiarism detection for an assignment.  The similarity report will be available in SpeedGrader, generally within 10 minutes of submission.  Turnitin provides a full set of guides for using the service inside of Canvas.

Using Turnitin SimCheck to check a single assignment submission

Since Turnitin SimCheck is integrated directly into Canvas, UM-Dearborn has made a special Canvas site available for faculty to check a single paper for plagiarism.  Please see the join information document (not accessible by students) for details on how to access this Canvas site.
