Plagiarism Detection

Copyleaks is UM-Dearborn's plagiarism detection service as of the Fall 2024 semester.  Copyleaks compares student submissions to resources on the public Internet, to previous submissions of student papers which were scanned with Copyleaks, and to some licensed resources and generates a report of similar content which may be viewed by the instructor of record and the student (at the instructor's discretion).  Copyleaks is integrated into Canvas, streamlining the submission and plagiarism detection process for students and faculty.

Using Copyleaks in a Canvas course

Since Copyleaks is integrated with the Canvas plagiarism framework, it only takes one simple selection to enable plagiarism detection for an assignment.  The similarity report will be available in SpeedGrader, generally within a few minutes of submission.  Copyleaks provides a full set of guides for using the service inside of Canvas.

Using Copyleaks to check a single assignment submission

Since Copyleaks is integrated directly into Canvas, UM-Dearborn has made a special Canvas site available for faculty to check a single paper for plagiarism.  Please see the join information document (only accessible to faculty and LEO lecturers) for details on how to access this Canvas site.
