Interim Campus Access

The University of Michigan-Dearborn is dedicated to the health and safety of our campus community. At this time, to reduce the risk of virus transmission, all campus access requires additional justification and approval. “We expect that the majority of faculty and staff will continue to work from home, as much as possible, throughout the fall semester.” Chancellor Grasso, 07/08/2020

Types of Campus Access:

During this interim time, MCard access has been disabled for all persons not currently working on campus. Building access is requested through one of two processes—the One-Time Access Process for single visits lasting less than one hour or the MCard Access Process for single visits greater than one hour or for multiple visits.

1. One-Time Campus Access:

  • When to Use: Faculty, staff, and students who only need to be on campus for a short period of time (typically less than 1 hour) on a single day (e.g. to pick up items from an office) should follow the One-Time Campus Access Process.
  • Approvals Required:
    • Confirmation of completion of the COVID-19: Working Safely at UM Training.
    • Supervisor approval of the campus access.

2. MCard Campus Access:

  • When to Use: Faculty, staff, and students who require multiple visits or an extended one-day (>1 hour) visit to campus (e.g. to record lectures) should follow the MCard Campus Access Process.
  • Approvals Required:
    • Confirmation of completion of the COVID-19: Working Safely at UM Training.
    • Written Dean/Vice Provost approval of the campus access.
    • Explanation of why the work cannot be performed remotely.

Process for Campus Access:

The following process is for campus access for faculty, staff, and students. Non-emergency requests for campus access must be approved by the Department and placed with DPPS/FacOps at least three (3) business days in advance.

  1. Complete the COVID-19: Working Safely at UM Training (State of Michigan Executive Order 2020-114).

  2. Submit the request to your Department Access Coordinator (DAC).  The Department Level Access Request Form can be used for this, but is not required.

  3. You will be notified if your Department approves, or not. If your Department approves, they will forward the request to DPPS for One Time Campus Access or to Facilities Operations for MCard Campus Access.

  4. You will be notified if the request is approved and processed by DPPS/Facilities Operations, or not. Do not come to campus until you have this approval.  When campus visits are required and approved, all on campus requirements, posted signage, and departmental procedures must be followed.
