Organization Categories

Our many organizations have been categorized into 7 areas by the Student Organization Advisory Council (SOAC), to help you find which orgs are for you!

Hobbies and Recreation

Student organizations who aim to indulge Wolverines in fun activities to help relax, rejuvenate, and rekindle their interest in hobbies. This also includes organizations that define themselves as providing Wolverines with opportunities to pursue their passions outside of academics.

Social Activism and Civic Engagement

Student organizations focused on bringing about social change for a cause they strongly believe in. This also includes organizations that strive to make a positive difference in the civic life of communities through non-political processes.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Student organizations that work toward establishing a more just and equitable society. These organizations may strive to identify and eliminate barriers that prevent equal participation of certain identity groups and/or promote diversity and inclusion, by celebrating the differences among the student community and building a positive environment that makes everyone feel welcome.

Academic organizations are those which are created or based on the intention to promote any academic discipline. These can be related to all academic fields of study/subjects and may help students by planning and organizing events or workshops that inform, educate, and advance their knowledge within that field.

Fraternity and Sorority

Student organizations that are recognized by a national or international organization and the Office of Student Life as official fraternities and sororities on campus.

Professional and Honorary

Student organizations that classify themselves as honor societies or that are related to or connecting to a profession.

Health and Wellness

Student organizations aimed at educating, promoting, and raising awareness for one or more of the nine domains of wellness through programming, policy change, and other initiatives.
