The CARE (Concern – Assess – Respond – Evaluate) Team is a group of faculty and staff who work diligently to support faculty, staff, and students in maintaining a safe, healthy campus environment. The CARE Team provides guidance and assistance to those who are displaying odd or unusual behaviors, are engaging in other behaviors that may be perceived as harmful, or who share information that is cause for concern regarding the health, welfare, or safety of a UM-Dearborn community member. This information is typically provided to the CARE Team through the submission of a CARE report. Through these reports, the team has a repository of information to draw from that best informs responses (when needed) to help mitigate difficult situations for those who may need intervention, through connections with campus and community resources.
To Report an Incident
To make a report to the CARE Team, please complete the CARE Team Online Reporting Form. Online reports are reviewed within 24 hours of being received, and action is taken when appropriate. In some cases, the team determines the report is informational only and may not take action.
If you have imminent safety concerns about any member of the UM-Dearborn community, please contact the UM-Dearborn Department of Public Safety at 313-593-5333.

The Disruptive Student Behavior Policy relates to any disruptive student behavior in an academic setting. This Policy provides clear steps for actions faculty and staff can take when faced with disruptive student behavior.
All colleges follow the following process when handling student complaints related to grades:
- The initial complaint regarding a course grade or assignment within a course shall be directed to the instructor.
- If the instructor determines that no change of grade should occur, the student may request the department chair to mediate a resolution.
- If the issue cannot be resolved at the department level, the student may petition the dean’s office requesting a hearing on the matter.
College Specific Grade Grievance Policies
The College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters has adopted its own college-wide and department-level grade appeal and change policies. Each department in the college has its own procedure for resolving grade complaints.
The College of Engineering & Computer Science uses an Academic Grievance Policy to manage student complaints related to grade disputes.
The College of Business has a Grade Change and Grade Grievance Policy and Procedures.
The College of Education, Health, and Human Services uses their Grade Change and Grade Grievance policy for resolving grade complaints.
The university also has a policy related to final course grades which permits students to seek changes by requesting action from their instructor within the five-week period after the term involved. After that a student may initiate a request for a review only through the petition process involving the student's College Academic Standards Committee.
