HPA Application Sessions

Getting ready to apply to Health Professions (HP) Graduate School? Need help? Want to work with someone who knows the process well and does this for a living? Read below!

The HPA Application Sessions are only for upper level students (juniors, seniors, and alumni) by years only, not by credits. Given by the HPA Director each year, the HPA Application Sessions start in January and are five sessions going through July. They cover topics from Big Picture Timeline, Mission Statements, Mission Maps, Personal Statements, Experiences/Work Activities as well as all of the other various essays of the application.  Along with the letters of evaluation and resumes, the application sessions cover the administrative components of the application. The HPA Application Sessions cover everything you ever wanted to know about the application process and more! They happen each year and the e-mail invitation to them occurs in mid to late November to upper-level students and alumni.  No RSVP is required but attendance is expected if you want to mock interview with the HPA Director in preparation for interviews.

The University of Michigan-Dearborn, in partnership with Madonna University and St. Mary Mercy Health System, created and manages the Emergency Medicine Research Associate Program (EMRAP) since 2015-16.

Each year, through a very competitive application process, 8-10 UM-Dearborn upperclass pre-Health Professions students participate in the program.  Currently 10 UM-Dearborn pre-Med track or pre-physician assistant track students are EMRAP associates.

Health Professions Schools Information Fair (HP Schools Info Fair)

UM-Dearborn HP Schools Info Fair 2019
UM-Dearborn HP Schools Info Fair 2019

The HPA Office in partnership with Career Services created and implements the annual HP Schools Info Fair annually in March for all UM-Dearborn pre-Health Professions track students.

In March 2019, 101 UM-Dearborn pre-Health Professions track students attended and 32 graduate Health Professions schools recruited including all seven state of Michigan medical schools and many other graduate Health Professions schools from Michigan and around the country.

Due to COVID-19, the event was canceled in March 2020.

In March 2021, 235 UM-Dearborn and UM-Ann Arbor pre-Health Professions track students attended a virtual week long event with 40 plus schools represented by 25 Universities and programs.  The 2021 UM-Dearborn Health Professions Schools Information Fair was a great success! Thank you to all who participated.

In March 2022, the annual HP Schools Information Fair returned in-person after a 2 year absence.  Approximately 75 students interacted with 23 schools and programs with much energy in the room.

In March 2023, the annual HP Schools Information Fair was again held in-person. Approximately 100 students from UM-Dearborn and Henry Ford College interacted with 25 health professions schools and programs. We were excited for the success of the event.

Starting in 2023, the annual HP Schools Information Fair will be held in-person every other year due to financial and attendance reasons.  Therefore, the next HP Schools Information Fair will be in Spring 2025.

Pharmacy Preferred Admission Program

Do you want to be on the frontline of healthcare? As a future pharmacist, you're part of the community either as a retail pharmacist, or in the hospital, research lab, industry or academia. We're excited to share about the Pharmacy Preferred Admission Program the University of Michigan-Dearborn has with the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor College of Pharmacy (UM-COP).

Up to ten (10) UM-Dearborn students, either high school student admitted to UM-Dearborn or first year UM-Dearborn student, will be granted conditional assurance of admission annually to UM-COP. These students will earn their bachelor's degree from UM-Dearborn. Together with Health Professions Advising team, the students will work on which courses to take to best prepare academically and co-curriculars to work on for the PharmD program at UM-COP. If they meet the PharmD admission requirements, these students will have reserved seats in the UM-COP's PharmD program, setting them on the course for a successful career in the pharmacy field. If you have questions, please meet with our HPA Director.

Early Assurance Program (EAP)

Do you have college years of service working with underserved communities? If you're truly committed to serving the medically underserved locally (Michigan) and globally as a physician, then Michigan State University (MSU) College of Human Medicine (CHM), the allopathic (MD) medical school, may be for you! See MSU CHM Admissions

UM-Dearborn formed a partnership with MSU CHM Early Assurance Program (EAP). You can read more about the partnership. This isn't an early decision program. Rather, if MSU CHM is your first-choice medical school and your mission is their mission, then the MSU CHM EAP is something you may want to pursue.

Learn more when MSU CHM visits campus each fall to share information about their medical school (CHM) and the EAP.  Set up an appointment with the HPA Director to find out if the EAP is your pathway and how to prepare your EAP application because the application cycle is not the same as the typical cycle. Please note: The UM-Dearborn MSU CHM EAP is not for UM-Dearborn alumni, or those seeking an early-decision program, or those already in the current MD or DO application cycle.
