Assessment Week 2024
In Fall 2018, the Campus Assessment Subcommittee and the Office of the Provost hosted the first Assessment Day. In the years since the committee's rotating members and partners across campus evolved the event from one day to multiple days of programming spread across virtual/in person and synchronous/asynchronous opportunities to engage. Now held annually in March, Assessment Week includes workshops, presentations, and resources relating to assessment practices, current conversations, or relevant topics in assessing student learning and learning outcomes assessment.
- Engage in conversations about planning Program Assessment in academic programs
- Attend interactive sessions to explore data collected through DDC Assessment
- Browse through digital resources and example assessment reports

Planning for Program Assessment - Virtual Workshop 1:00 - 2:00 pm
As a campus, we have put in a lot of effort to infuse a culture of assessment into curricular and co curricular programs. Our storied history with assessing learning goals has given us a solid foundation of practices and our recent visit from HLC affirms that we are on an exciting path.
We recently shifted to a common biennial (every other year) submission cycle for non-externally accredited programs. Join this workshop to learn about the current cycle, where your program should be, and tips to consider as you navigate assessing learning and success in your programs.

CANCELLED - DDC Session: Reviewing Intersections data - Virtual Workshop 1:00 - 2:30pm
As part of our campus commitment to continuous pedagogical development and improvement, we regularly assess our curriculum and “close-the-loop” by applying our assessment findings to improve student learning outcomes. We do the same for our general education curriculum, the Dearborn Discovery Core. Under our current assessment program, we are sequentially assessing DDC categories over several years; but to ensure that we can reflect immediately on our assessment findings, we will be holding analysis and reflection sessions immediately after assessing a category. We recently assessed the Intersections category, so we’re ready to analyze and reflect on the results! This session is structured to give faculty an opportunity to look over the assessment data, and consider the implications of that data for student learning and general education assessment.
Topics in Assessment and Lunch - In Person Event 11:30 - 1:00pm
Have you ever wondered how our friends in Ann Arbor approach program assessment? I have too!
This year we are inviting special guests (College Leadership and Program Assessment Coordinators) to a ‘lunch and listen’ session during Assessment Week to hear from Dr. Hayley Heaton - Assistant Director of Assessment in Ann Arbor’s Center for Research on Teaching and Learning. Dr. Heaton will share her experiences and perspectives on effective collaboration and designing assessment projects.
We are encouraging all college leadership as well as any program assessment coordinators to attend on Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. We’ll start with lunch and then begin the presentation around 12:00 pm. Contact Jessica LaGrange ([email protected]) if you are interested in registering for this session to check availability.

On-demand Materials
Browse online and self-paced resources, scroll through past workshops and presentations, and explore real examples of assessments and reports from your colleagues.
Assessment grants are available to provide your program with the resources to move forward with your assessment goals. Many programs have already used assessment grants to re-design shared assessment tools, gather and analyze assessment data on specific aspects of their programs, design protocols for continuous assessment, and much more.
These slides provide an overall look at what being an assessment coordinator for an academic program consists of and the work the role entails.
