Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency
The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency is the central coordinating agency, providing support, care, advocacy and service to veterans and their families. MVAA was created by Executive Order 2013-2 and began operations on March 20, 2013, the 10th anniversary of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
MVAA is a state government agency and is housed within Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
The agency works to identify and break down barriers veterans face in employment, education, healthcare and quality of life, making Michigan a great place for veterans and their families to call home. The agency aggregates veterans services currently found in 14 state agencies as well as hundreds of community-based veteran programs to create no wrong door access to benefits and services.
Services provided by MVAA include:
- The Michigan Veteran Resource Service Center (800-MICH-VET) and MichiganVeterans.com website provide one-stop access for veterans and their families seeking information, resources, and staff support.
- Michigan Veterans Trust Fund grants help combat-era veterans and their families weather unforeseen, temporary financial emergencies.
- MVAA's Discharge Document Retrieval Service provides veterans copies of DD-214 discharge documents.
- The Grand Rapids Home for Veterans and the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette provide eligible veterans and their spouses skilled nursing, dementia, special needs, or domiciliary care in safe, caring environments.
- Certified Veteran Friendly Employers -- MVAA recognizes employers that commit to military veteran recruitment, training, and retention practices by awarding those employers Gold, Silver, and Bronze level status as Veteran-Friendly Employers.
MVAA's Vision
For Michigan to be the place veterans choose to live, raise a family, work and retire...
County Veteran Service Offices
If you have not filed a claim with the VA, or have questions about an existing claim, the County Veteran Service Officers are there to assist you.
It is highly recommended that each person who has separated from the Armed Forces, go through the VA rating process. By doing so, a veteran may be eligible for additional VA benefits, including educational assistance through Veteran Readiness and Employment (Chapter 31).
If you would like more information regarding this process, contact our office.
