Pregnancy and Parenting
The University is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for pregnant and parenting students and employees. A student who is pregnant may:
- Continue to attend all classes and extracurricular activities
- Receive reasonable accommodations to ensure participation in classes and activities (such as frequent bathroom breaks, flexibility with physical activities, etc.)
University/Faculty Obligations:
Absences due to pregnancy, childbirth, or related conditions must be excused, and Instructors must allow students to submit work after deadlines missed due to pregnancy or childbirth. If grading includes participation or attendance components, students must have opportunities to make up credits missed due to pregnancy-related absences.
Pregnancy must be treated the same as other temporary medical conditions

Supporting the Academic Excellence of Student Caregivers (CEW+)
CEW+ is focused on building collaborative work with student parents to create more systems-level change, removing barriers for student parents on their path to graduation.
Funding for Student Caregivers:
The annual CEW+ Scholarship program application usually opens in the Winter Term, and the funding can be applied to the next academic year. Students can reach out directly to [email protected] with specific questions.
The CEW+ Fellowship program opens in the Winter Term, and the funding can be applied to the next academic year. Questions can be sent to this email: [email protected]
Employee Resources
University employees may request reasonable accommodations related to pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions. The University has a policy on Paid Maternity (Childbirth) and Parental Leave.
