The Tuition Differential Scholarship awards renewable scholarships to freshmen and transfer students. This scholarship covers the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years or the completion of a baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first.

Requirements for Freshmen 

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident, Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, or Mexican citizen
  • Documentation of permanent residency required
  • GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale)
  •  ACT composite score of 20 or SAT combined score of 1030 or higher
  • Full-time degree-seeking enrollment at UM-Dearborn
  • Renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at UM-Dearborn

Requirements for Transfers

  •  U.S. citizen or permanent resident, Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, or Mexican citizen
  •  Documentation of permanent residency required
  •  GPA of 3.5 or higher as calculated by the Office of Admissions and Orientation (4.0 scale)
  •  Full-time degree-seeking enrollment at UM-Dearborn
  •  Renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at UM-Dearborn

Students who are in the process of applying for Michigan residency with the Residency Classification Office must meet the filing deadline listed on the Application for Residency. If approved for residency, the approval must be effective for the student's first semester at UM-Dearborn in order for the student to be considered for scholarships offered by the Office of Admissions & Orientation that require Michigan residency.

The Fine Print

  • SAT criteria are based on the new SAT total score for Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math.  
  • GPA, at the time of admission, is used in determining scholarship eligibility.
  • All scholarships are subject to review for renewal at the end of each academic year. All recipients must meet requirements of satisfactory academic progress and maintain a cumulative grade point average as articulated in their Terms and Conditions Form at the time of online scholarship acceptance.
