About University Unions & Events
David Disney is the Director for University Unions & Events and is responsible for student union, food and beverage and campus event services. His responsibilities include providing leadership for the programming, facilities and operations of the student union and outdoor spaces on campus. He is responsible for the administration of the campus-wide bookstore and campus food service contracts, which include catering, food courts and vending services. Additionally, he is responsible for leading the University’s meetings and special events team, including room and equipment reservations, event coordination and the student ambassador program.
Prior to joining UM-Dearborn, David served the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor as General Manager of Palmer Commons, a campus Conference and Community Center and as Conference Services Manager of Ross School of Business Executive Education Center. He joined the university after a career in hospitality management where he specialized in activating new hotel projects.
David is an avid Michigan Wolverine and Detroit Tigers fan. He and his wife, Sharon, enjoy traveling; their current itinerary is focused on visiting all Major League Baseball stadiums.
Kris is responsible for the daily management of the University Center, Fairlane Center, and Union at Dearborn common spaces. She is also responsible for supervising and managing almost 50 student employees who serve as Building Managers, Audio Visual Technicians, and UUE's Operations and Information Center teams.
Prior to serving as the Assistant Director of UUE, Kris was the Interim Director of the University Center, and the Director of Student Activities at UM-Dearborn since 2001. Prior to that she worked at the MSU Union at Michigan State and the Idaho Commons & Student Union Building at the University of Idaho. She earned her Masters degree in Higher Education Administration from Indiana University - Bloomington and her Bachelors degree from Northern Michigan University in Psychology and Biology. She also serves on the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Education Council.
Outside of work, Kris enjoys spending time with her family, traveling (she has slept in all 50 states and visited three continents), running, and exploring good food through cooking and visiting restaurants.
Special Event & Sales Manager
Nick manages the Events Office for University Unions which includes planning high profile events, directing the Events Staff and promoting our services to the campus & community in general. Nick has been working in the Events industry for over 15 years. In his free time, he likes to bike, run and enjoy all things geeky.
Event Services Planner
Karen is responsible for the supervision of UUE student event coordinators and for planning events of every level. She has 38 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Prior to her 15 years on the Dearborn campus, she also worked on the UM Ann Arbor campus at the Michigan League for 5 years. There she managed day-to-day operations while supervising professional, union and student staffs. On the UM-Dearborn campus she has been involved with MLK Service Day. When not working, she enjoys her grandsons, her garden and her beagle named Frank.

We are proud to serve the student support and hospitality needs of the university and surrounding community, primarily in Fairlane Center, University Center and the Union@Dearborn.
University Unions & Events was established as a new university unit in 2014 to consolidate and optimize our campus resources to best serve our university students, colleagues, strategic partners and regional guests. Greater service and satisfaction for you is the primary goal of our reorganization.
Opened in November 2004, the University Center provides one-stop service to our current and future students. From Enrollment Services to Student Services to the Barnes & Noble Bookstore, University of Michigan Credit Union, McKinley Cafe, and Photo ID Services you'll find everything you need under one roof. Prior to its current functions, the University Center building was formerly know as the University Mall. The Mall opened in 1980 as a multifunctional facility housing classrooms, offices and retail food outlets.
Fairlane Center, the former Ford Training and Development Center, was acquired by UM-Dearborn and opened in 2004. The campus complex is comprised of two connected buildings. Fairlane Center South is home to the College of Business, College of Education, Health, and Human Services, several classrooms, meeting rooms and cafe. Fairlane Center North provides meeting spaces and services delivered in a conference center style format. University Unions & Events provides conference and hospitality services in several premier spaces within the complex.
University of Michigan-Dearborn ushered in a new era in student life September 1, 2013 as more than 400 students moved into The Union at Dearborn. The privately owned complex is the first housing option specifically designed for UM-Dearborn students in more than 25 years. UM-Dearborn leased 15,000 square feet within the facility for student life activities. Named Victors’ Den, University Unions & Events administers this area that includes a large lounge, informal gathering spaces, meeting and study rooms, a performance-style theater and several student life offices.
