History

University Unions & Events proudly provides student union services and meetings and events planning and support at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. We are proud to serve the student support and hospitality needs of the university and surrounding community, primarily in the Fairlane Center and the James C. Renick University Center.

University Unions & Events was established as a new university unit in 2014 to consolidate and optimize our campus resources to best serve our university students, colleagues, strategic partners, and regional guests. Greater service and satisfaction for you is the primary goal of our reorganization.

Opened in November 2004, the James C. Renick University Center provides one-stop service to our current and future students.  From Enrollment Services to Student Services to the Barnes & Noble Bookstore,  University of Michigan Credit Union, McKinley Cafe, and Photo ID Services you'll find everything you need under one roof. Prior to its current functions, the James C. Renick University Center building was formerly known as the University Mall. The Mall opened in 1980 as a multifunctional facility housing classrooms, offices and retail food outlets.

Fairlane Center, the former Ford Training and Development Center, was acquired by UM-Dearborn and opened in 2004. The campus complex is comprised of two connected buildings. Fairlane Center South is home to the College of Business, College of Education, Health, and Human Services, several classrooms, meeting rooms and cafe. Fairlane Center North provides meeting spaces and services delivered in a conference center style format. University Unions & Events provides conference and hospitality services in several premier spaces within the complex.
