Classroom of 1 year olds

Some are just learning what it means to be at school, while other children are acting as leaders in the classroom. Each child brings something different to the classroom, and it is very neat to get to know each child and watch them grow and learn over the school year.

Our Reggio Emilia inspired philosophy allows us to follow the interests of the children in the classroom. Through their interests, we build investigations and explorations that last over the course of several days, weeks, or months. This allows us to continually engage the children in activities they are interested in while still incorporating different curriculum areas into our room. By focusing on small learning groups, we are making sure to incorporate several interests into the classroom throughout the semester so each child feels like a part of our classroom community.

Our goal is to provide high quality education and care to your children.  We will be planning lessons which assess and develop their skills and challenge their thinking.  We have created a schedule which is reflective of the children’s needs, so there is plenty of time to practice these skills.  As a part of this classroom, your child’s voice and thinking will be valued and demonstrated through the development of long-term investigations which continue throughout the semester. The children will be a part of a learning group where relationships are fostered and children work as a team to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. With the help of our teachers and students, the children will learn to express themselves in a variety of languages (speaking, art, and building, just to name a few) and develop a love of learning and investigation.  We are looking at new and exciting ways to document their work, both in the classroom and online so families can view it as well.
