Programs for 2023-2024
Thank you for your interest in the University of Michigan-Dearborn Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) programs.
Interested in enrollment? Please complete the 2022-2023 school year application online. You will be notified by email if we have availability. At this time, we do not have any in person tours available. Our Toddler Program offers enrollment for children between the ages of 12 months through 35 months of age, based on September 1st of the given school year. Children must be able to walk independently as their primary movement method for admission; this does not apply to children with identified special need. The ECEC does not require children to be toilet trained prior to enrollment, and will assist families who have started toilet training.
The Toddler Program offers a smaller classroom for the engagement of the children. With a ratio of 1 adult to 4 children, the class sizes are 8 to 12 children. The ratio requirements for the Toddler Program is reflected in the tuition rate.
As part of the ECEC commitment to our families, children remain in the same classroom for the enrolled school year period. Best practice supports continuity of care, which is demonstrated through consistent teachers, primary caregivers and classroom. Placement and tuition rate is based on the child's age as of September 1 of the enrolled school year.
The Preschool Program offers enrollment for children between the ages of 3 years through 4 years of age. Children must be able to walk independently as their primary movement method for admission; this does not apply to children with identified special need. The ECEC does not require children to be toilet trained prior to enrollment and will assist families who have started toilet training.
The Preschool ratio is 1 adult to 8 children. Each classroom will have 16 to 20 students attending on any given day.

The Kindergarten program is for children who are 5 years old by September 1st of the enrolled school year in accordance with the Michigan State standards.
If you are interested in enrolling your child into Kindergarten who is under the age of 5 on September 1st but will be 5 years of age on or before December 1st, please review the guidelines for your child's next school prior to your commitment this year. A waiver is required. The ECEC retains the right to only accept waivers for children who have completed their prior preschool year in one of the ECEC preschool classrooms.
