CASL Alumni Affiliate Scholarship
The CASL Alumni Affiliate founded its scholarship in 1995 as a way to meet its primary objective — to support the well being of the College.
By supporting outstanding liberal arts students today, we hope to assure the success of the College, and of the Alumni Affiliate, for many years to come. The scholarship is funded by donations received throughout the year and by funds raised at fund-raisers through the volunteer efforts of Alumni Affiliate members and the generous donations of our many sponsors and contributors.
Congratulations to our 2023-24 CASL Alumni Affiliate scholarship recipients.

In its 27-year history, the CASL Alumni Affiliate Scholarship has already helped over 150 deserving liberal arts students reach their goal of academic excellence. Through the generous contributions of hundreds of alumni and other friends of the College, we hope to continue, and expand, the scholarship in coming years.
In order to apply for the scholarship, students must:
- have completed 25 course hours at UM-Dearborn;
- be a declared CASL major;
- have a current grade point average of 3.25 or higher, and;
- demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
Students who meet the basic requirements must first complete a standard UM-Dearborn scholarship application. The application must be submitted with a personal statement and two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a CASL faculty member.
Applications are screened to assure that they meet all requirements. A committee composed of CASL Alumni Affiliate volunteers reviews all applications that meet the basic requirements and selects an appropriate number of applicants for personal interviews. The committee then conducts the interviews and selects a winner or winners based upon the applicants’ academic performance and financial need.
As a condition of accepting the scholarship, all recipients are asked to attend the Alumni Affiliate’s annual reception, which is held the second Thursday of each September. Recipients must also write a “Statement of Impact,” which outlines how the scholarship has affected his or her life.
The scholarship may be renewed one time. Those wishing to be considered for renewal must complete a second full application and interview process.
Scholarship application for current CASL students is available from the Financial Aid website.
