African-American Alumni Affiliate Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize outstanding leadership achievement of African-American students enrolled at UM-Dearborn. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, demonstrated involvement and leadership abilities on campus or in the community, scholarly research, and artistic creations or inventions.

Andy and Cheryl Chapekis Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to provide support to students with financial need who intend to or are majoring in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters (CASL) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Beth Beson Scholarship for Returning Women

  • Basic eligibility: This fund was established to recognize scholastic achievement, to encourage continued progress, and to provide assistance to women in financing their education. The scholarship is intended to help women who have economic responsibility for themselves and their children and/or those women who are in need of additional education to gain economic independence.

CASL Alumni Affiliate Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship is intended to recognize the superior academic achievement of students enrolled in degree programs in CASL. Applicants must have achieved sophomore, junior, or senior standing, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, and submit a recommendation from a CASL faculty member who is familiar with their academic ability.

CASL Emeriti Faculty Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This program is intended to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued academic progress, and provide assistance to students in financing their education. Applicants must have been accepted for study in CASL and have achieved junior or senior standing, with preference given to seniors who demonstrate qualities of leadership.

CASL Internship Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to provide support to undergraduate students in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters (CASL) who participate in an unpaid internship program through UM-Dearborn or an approved unpaid internship program at another college or university, including other UM campuses. Eligible applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 and achieved sophomore, junior, or senior status.

Dr. Ahmad Rahman Memorial Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to provide scholarship support to UM-Dearborn students who are majoring or minoring in African and African American Studies.

Dr. Charles M. Krafchak Memorial Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to provide scholarship support to University of Michigan-Dearborn undergraduate students who are enrolled in the Honors Program in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters (CASL) and plan to have a career in public health.

Dr. George and Isabelle Elanjian Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established by Dr. George and Isabelle Elanjian to support students of Armenian descent who demonstrate financial need, scholastic achievement and contributions to their community. Recipients are selected on the basis of financial need, scholastic achievement, involvement in the community and letters of recommendation. Interested students must submit a current FAFSA to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.

Dr. Joachim "Kim" Bruhn Scholarship for International Study

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to recognize scholastic achievement, to encourage continued progress, and to provide opportunities for students to build on their classroom experience and learn about the world through study abroad. The award may only be used for a UM-Dearborn approved international study or study abroad program. Preference will be given to CASL students. This scholarship may be used for immediate upcoming summer, fall, or winter programs.

Dr. John Devlin Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress of, and provide assistance to students who have declared, or intend to declare a major in Physics. Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial need and merit.

Dr. Linda Fisher Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress of, and provide assistance to students majoring in the natural sciences. The applicant must have achieved junior or senior standing concentrating in one of the undergraduate degree programs in the Natural Sciences Department. Some preference will be given to those concentrating in Microbiology and/or African-American women.

Dr. Mark DeCamp Professional Health Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: The scholarship was established to support students who are active members of a recognized student organization that is part of the Pre-Health Leadership Council (i.e. Pre-Professional Health Society, Pre-SOMA, Phi Delta Epsilon, Minority Association of Pre-Med Students, Biomedical Engineering Society, Pre-Vet Club, Pre-Physical Therapy Association, Pre-Dental Association, and the Pre-Pharmacy Society). Eligible applicants must be active members in at least one of these student organizations at the time they apply for the scholarship.

Dr. Paul Zitzewitz Memorial Scholarship for Student Research

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to provide support for UM-Dearborn undergraduate or graduate students who are majoring and conducting research in one of the Natural Sciences disciplines at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Preference will be given to undergraduate students. The award may be used: to purchase supplies and/or presentation materials in support of the students’ research and/or to provide travel aid for students presenting a paper, poster or serving on a panel or other active form of participation at a national or regional meeting related to the students’ research.

Dr. Richard A. Potts Endowed Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to recognize, encourage continued progress and retention of, and provide assistance to students who have declared, or intend to declare, a major in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and/or Environmental Science. While merit will be the primary criterion, financial need will also be a factor in the selection process.

Elnora Ford and Cheryl Harris Intellectual Excellence Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to reward academic excellence. To be considered for the award, students must submit an essay on a social justice topic (minimum of 5 pages and not to exceed 7 pages) by March 1. Students must be U.S. citizens and Michigan residents, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, and have completed at least six undergraduate credit hours at UM-Dearborn.

Eric M. Nemeth Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to provide scholarship support to students who will or have participated in the Ottawa Internship Program. In a given year, if there are no eligible applicants for the Ottawa Internship program, the scholarship may be awarded to a student or students participating in one of the other Public Affairs Internship Programs.

Garden Club of Dearborn

  • Basic eligibility: The purpose of the program is to perpetuate study in environmentally related fields. Applicants must be majoring in Horticulture, Environmental Science, or a related field. Academic standing, financial need, and character will be considered in awarding this scholarship.

Helen Mataya Graves Political Science Internship Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: The purpose of this award is to recognize academic achievements of UM-Dearborn students and to support, through tuition stipend, the participation in off-campus, non-paid political internship experiences which enhance students’ educational and career objectives. This scholarship is intended to support those internship programs which are non-paid and which yield university credit. The scholarship funds awarded will be applied toward tuition costs for the political internship course. Applicants must have achieved sophomore, junior, or senior standing and be enrolled in a political internship for the term in which he/she is applying. Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial need and merit. This scholarship may be used for immediate upcoming summer, fall, or winter internships.

James Barton Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship program was established to recognize, recruit and/or encourage continued progress of, and provide assistance to students with disabilities who study mathematics, natural sciences, computer science, or engineering. Students must be eligible for Disability Services and be majoring in one of the mentioned programs of study. Recipients will be selected on the basis of merit and need.

James and May Bell Loeb Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established in memory of James and May Bell Loeb to recognize outstanding scholastic achievement. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. While merit will be the primary criterion, financial need will also be a factor in the selection process.

Janet and Cynthia Hewitt Scholarship for Women

  • Basic eligibility: The purpose of this scholarship is to assist non-traditional female students. Applicants must be female students who are the sole support for their household. Applicants may have lost their major source of support and need to re-enter the job market to achieve economic independence. Students should have a minimum GPA of 2.6; be US citizens and residents of Michigan. Preference will be given to the previous year’s recipient(s).

John J. Brownfain Endowed Memorial Honors Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This fund was established to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress, and provide assistance to students in financing their education at UM-Dearborn. Students must be enrolled in the Honors Program and majoring in Psychology or any majors that are part of the Literature, Philosophy, and the Arts or the Language, Culture, and Communication departments. Students must be enrolled full-time.

John T. and Barbara A. Dempsey Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Dempsey, a former professor of political science at UM-Dearborn who also served as Director of Budget for the State of Michigan and Director of the Michigan Department of Social Services. Applicants must have achieved junior or senior standing and be majoring in Political Science.

Kenneth and Marian Parkhurst Natural Areas Fellowship

  • Basic eligibility: This fellowship is designed to reward students who have demonstrated excellence in studies or experiences regarding natural history and environmental interpretation. The fellowship should recognize outstanding achievement for a student who has taken coursework in classes like Field Biology, Environmental Interpretation, Environmental Education, etc., or someone who has distinguished himself/herself leading environmental education programs, such as the ones offered at the EIC, science/nature centers, Friends of the Rouge, or other non-profit environmental organizations.

Lecturers Employee Organization (LEO) Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship is sponsored by the Lecturers Employee Organization at UM-Dearborn. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25. While merit will be the primary criterion, financial need will also be a factor in the selection process.

Mathematics Scholarship for declared CASL Mathematics or Applied Statistics Majors

  • Basic eligibility:  Applicants must be a full-time student in the Fall or Winter semesters, have achieved at least sophomore standing, and be a declared Mathematics or Applied Statistics Major (including those students in secondary education) in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters. A student may receive the award in no more than two academic years.

Mitchell Arachnology Travel Fund

  • Basic eligibility:  This scholarship was established to provide support to students studying arachnology to assist them in attending scientific arachnology meetings and/or visit arachnology collection sites or other arachnology research laboratories. Since this is a scholarship for travel, graduating seniors will be eligible to receive the award for the summer directly following their graduation. Students receiving the scholarship may have received a full-tuition scholarship for the Fall/Winter and the student may be enrolled less than half-time during the semester(s) for which the scholarship is used.

Preference will be given to students who are majoring, or intend to major, in Mathematics.This scholarship was established to provide financial support to math education majors who are either a junior, senior, or math education graduate student.

Rosalind (Roz) Zehra-Harrell Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Basic eligibility: The scholarship will provide support to UM-Dearborn students who demonstrate an interest and talent in creative writing, drawing, and/or singing. Eligible applicants may be enrolled in any concentration or program at UM-Dearborn but will be expected to take courses in drawing, creative writing, or singing and/or be active in related student organizations such as the Art Club, the Choir at UM-Dearborn, or the Voices of Triumph Gospel Choir.

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to provide scholarship support to students who are interested in a career in public service and diplomacy. Selma Baumgarten Memorial Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship has been established to help students in financial need who might otherwise not be able to complete their studies and who in some measure share the values held by Mrs. Baumgarten and her strong belief in the power of higher education to transform lives. She felt that all people should have the opportunity to improve themselves and their ability to help others through education. Applicants must demonstrate a love of learning and dedication to public service. Preference will be give to students majoring in or planning to major in fields within CASL or CEHHS. Particular consideration will be given to participants in the SOAR program.

Shirley Dudek Demmer Memorial Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to recognize, recruit and encourage the continued progress of, and provide assistance to UM-Dearborn undergraduate students in the Women’s & Gender Studies program or graduate students in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program who have selected Women’s & Gender Studies as their thematic focus. Merit and financial need will be considered in the selection process.

Sidell Slosberg Sorscher and Samuel Sorscher Memorial Scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: This scholarship was established to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress, and provide assistance to students in financing their education. This scholarship also assists students whose support from parents, family, or spouse is non-existent or marginal. Special consideration will be given to students with refugee status. Applicants must have achieved junior, senior, or graduate standing, be enrolled full time, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. While merit will be the primary criterion, financial need will also be a factor in the selection process.

Preference will be given to students who also provide evidence of involvement in community affairs or interest in law and public policy, public administration, or related areas of study at UM-Dearborn.
