Workshop 1
"Sanctity of life and the policing experience"
The beginning of the program focuses on a simple yet crucial element that can be easily in all aspects of life, including police work, home, or in the neighborhood - active listening. In essence, this is a non-lethal method used by crisis negotiators to de-escalate a person in crisis.
- Participants learn and engage in discussion on the 'Crisis State' and the components of returning someone to a more rational state
- Case studies of crisis interventions highlight the methods used in situational control
- Exercises demonstrate individual understanding of both active listening and crisis intervention
