Psychology Internship Program
Juniors and seniors can obtain practical experience working under supervision in a setting relevant to psychology.
Internship students will spend 6 or 12 hours per week at their field placement and will attend a weekly seminar on campus. Students may register for Psych 485 (Field Work: Psychology Internship) for four or six credits.
Questions should be directed to Dr. Roger Loeb, 313-593-5520.
The general areas of internships are:
- Animal services
- Children's services
- Counseling
- Criminal justice
- Crisis intervention
- Developmental disabilities
- Emotionally and/or behaviorally challenged children
- Geriatric
- Hearing or vision impaired
- Industrial/organizational/human resources
- Mental health
- Neuropsychology
- Race and ethnicity
- Substance abuse
- Teenagers
- Women’s services/domestic violence
Professor Loeb will assist in identifying potential internship placement based on the student’s career interests. The student is instructed to contact the facility/organization identified by Professor Loeb to arrange an interview, then to contact Professor Loeb regarding the results of the interview.
If you are unsure about the placement selection with regard to the area of psychology in which you want to work, it would be to your advantage to seek the counsel of Professor Roger Loeb or another psychology faculty member who is knowledgeable in the field(s) you are considering. If you have your own contacts in the Behavioral Sciences field, you can elect to self-place.
