Health and Human Services Internships
Internships allow students the opportunity to explore future career options and apply classroom knowledge to a real life setting. HHS has a plethora of partnerships with hospitals, insurance providers, non-profits, and other community organizations to help jump start your career!
All students in Health and Human Services programs at the University of Michigan-Dearborn have the option to complete an internship related to their field of study. Possible internship opportunities include but are not limited to:
- ACCESS
- Ascension Medical Group
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan
- Beaumont Health System
- Centria Healthcare- Autism Services
- Cody-Rouge Community Action Alliance
- Detroit Wayne County Health Authority
- Joy-Southfield Community Development Corporation
Preparing for your Internship
As a student, you may utilize the HHS Internship (HHS 402) early on in your studies to develop an idea of what health and human services is like in application or toward the end of your studies as an opportunity to apply your knowledge and get experience in your area of interest. HHS 402 can be taken up to 2 times for a total of 6 credits. The following pre-requisites and restrictions apply:
- HHS 200- Intro to Public Health OR HHS 210- Intro to Social Work must be completed
- 54+ credits earned prior to term of internship (Sophomore Standing)
In order to prepare for your internship, you must complete a CEHHS Internship Application by the posted deadline:
- Fall Internships- August 26
- Winter Internships- December 23
- Summer Internships- April 28
Overrides for registration will be processed upon receipt of the application. Students will then be contacted by the Field Placement Office to discuss your interests and possible placements.
