For Students Finishing Foreign Language Endorsements
As of Fall 2022, UM-Dearborn no longer offers preparation for endorsements in French, Spanish, or German.
For students completing these endorsements, study guides can be located here:
An Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and score at the Advanced Low level is also required for foreign language endorsements. The OPI is a 15-30 minute, live conversation with a tester, to assess your speaking ability.
This can be completed during or after student teaching and graduation, but must be done prior to being recommended to the State of Michigan for your endorsement. We suggest students first focus on passing the MTTC Subject Test and then shift attention to the OPI. Experience in student teaching may help to prepare you for the interview, however, please keep in mind you cannot obtain your endorsement until the Advanced Low level is achieved.
To register for the Oral Proficiency Interview, visit the Language Testing International website and select the language for the endorsement you are pursuing. Registration Instructions can be found here.
