MTTC Elementary Level-Based Exams
The Michigan Test for Teacher Certification - Elementary Education (#103) exam is required for all students in a level-based elementary certification program and must be passed prior to recommendation for certification to the Michigan Department of Education.
It is recommended that students take this test during the student teaching semester.
The MTTC Elementary Education Exam consists of 150 multiple choice questions covering six (6) subareas. They are broken down as follows:
- English Language Arts and World Languages - 24 percent
- Social Studies - 16 percent
- Visual and Performing Arts - 10 percent
- Mathematics - 22 percent
- Science - 18 percent
- Health Education and Physical Education - 10 percent
The Elementary Education exam will no longer be available after July 2026. Students must be eligible for student teaching by Winter 2025 to complete an elementary level-based certification program in order to ensure your ability to pass the exam before it is phased out. Students who do not take and pass the #103 exam prior to July 2026 risk not being able to be certified to teach without additional coursework.
