This year's conference is being held at the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

The conference will launch with a plenary talk, proceed into breakout discussion sessions organized by topic themes to address key questions posed by participants and session facilitators, and conclude with a second plenary talk. The conference will close with the annual MI-AMTE business meeting.

Conversations among Colleagues

History

In the past, Conversations Among Colleagues has included a diverse mix of sessions focused on improving mathematics education and continuing the development of teachers of mathematics.

Theme for 2024: Reframing and Humanizing Mathematics, Teaching, and Learning. 

Through this theme, we hope to engage diverse perspectives and voices of teachers and learners of mathematics at all levels.

Amanda Jansen

Amanda Jansen

Professor of Mathematics

University of Delaware

Mandy Jansen is a mathematics educator who conducts research on students’ engagement in mathematics classrooms and teachers’ learning from their reflections on their own practice. She is committed to honoring students’ voices through her research on students’ motivation and engagement. Dr. Jansen is the author of the 2020 book, “Rough Draft Math: Revising to Learn”.

Aris Winger

Aris Winger 

Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Georgia Gwinnett College

Aris Winger is a graduate of Howard University, earning a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, and Carnegie Mellon University, earning a Master of Science and a doctorate in mathematical sciences.  His recent areas of interest include finding equity in the mathematics classroom and enacting culturally relevant pedagogy. Dr. Winger cohosts, “Mathematically Uncensored,” a podcast that explores current events and issues for minorities in the mathematical sciences.

Call for Proposals

We welcome proposals from anyone engaged in improving mathematics education and the preparation and continuing development of teachers of mathematics, PreK-College. The planning committee welcomes presentations that will facilitate discussions surrounding this year’s theme, "Reframing and humanizing mathematics, teaching, and learning". We are especially interested in presentations that integrate these ideas.

Registration for the 2024 Conversations among Colleagues conference is closing, Tuesday March 12, at 11:59 p.m.  To register, please follow the link below. On-site registrations will not be available the day of the conference.

Graduate students and early career faculty are invited to a social immediately following the conference!

 What: A time to socialize and network. MI-AMTE will cover dinner and 1 drink of choice.

 Where: Ford Road Patio Bar & Grill (18490 Ford Rd., Detroit). 

 When: Begins at 4:30 p.m.. We will have our own space in the back of the restaurant.
