A Message from the Dean: March 2023

In the February 13, 2023 edition of the Reporter, it was noted that the University of Michigan-Dearborn has been recognized as a top producer of scholars in the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program.

This came as no surprise to me as in my time as Dean I have had the privilege of congratulating eight members of the CASL faculty for their selection as Fulbright scholars. But, of course, my time on campus extends much further back than merely my years as Dean. As I thought back further in time, I started to recall a number of colleagues and faculty members who I had the pleasure of studying under who were also selected as Fulbright scholars.

This led me to the Fulbright program website where I learned that UM-Dearborn has actually had 34 Fulbright scholars. Of that number, 31 (over 91%), were CASL faculty members. How impressive is that! In reality then, it is not UM-Dearborn that is a top producer of these prestigious award winners, it is CASL! What a tremendous recognition of the quality of CASL faculty.

Congratulations to all of the recipients (past and present). You make us all very proud!
