Confined Spaces
Confined Space - A space that meets all of the following criteria:
- Is large enough and so configured that an employee can bodily enter and perform assigned work.
- Has limited or restricted means for entry and exit, e.g., tanks, tunnels, vessels, silos, storage bins, hoppers, vaults, and pits.
- Is not designed for continuous employee occupancy.
In order to provide a safe work environment in confined spaces, employees must know and apply safe work practice procedures, have available personal protective equipment (PPE) and other protective equipment to insure their safety, and receive appropriate training.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding confined spaces or confined space entry, please refer to the EHS Confined Space Guideline or contact EHS at 313-583-6679.
