Automated External Defibrillator Program (AED) Program

An AED Can Save Your Life

An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is a computerized medical device that will analyze the heart rhythm of a person in cardiac arrest, recognize a shockable rhythm, and advise the operator (through voice prompts and L.E.D indicators) whether the rhythm should be shocked. This means that it is possible for non-medical professionals to administer a controlled electric shock to a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. The devices ensure that an electric shock is delivered only when necessary.

It is recommended that anyone who may be expected to use an AED in a cardiac emergency should be trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the appropriate use of AED devices.

Lifepack CR Plus Defibrillator

Lifepak AEDs can be found in most buildings on campus.  Take time to become familiar with their location within your building.  They can usually be found in a central location, near elevators or where people commonly gather. To view a list of locations by buildings see the table below or our Campus Locations of AEDs PDF.

Please view this demonstration video for the Physio Lifepak CRPlus. It will describe its functions and will go through an actual use demonstration. This video does not take the place of training; however, it will help you become familiar with the unit.

Although training is not required to use an AED, CPR/ AED training is highly recommended in the event of anyone responding to a sudden cardiac arrest situation.
